Why do I recommend moving Saskatoon to Toronto?
Even though moving house can be a stressful, time-consuming, and costly process, you will understand that all the efforts were worth it. It’s time to shake the dust off your life and bring changes!
Choosing Toronto as the city to live in, you select the fourth most liveable city in the world, based on the following factors:
- healthcare,
- education,
- culture, and
- environment.
Besides, it’s a city of arts, rich culture, and entertainment for everyone. It’s a great city to live in for many reasons. Read on for my top six reasons for moving to Toronto.
- A multicultural community. With over 140 languages and dialects spoken around the city, over half of Toronto’s population was born outside of Canada. You’ll be able to see communities like Little Italy, Chinatown, and Greektown and enjoy the best dishes of these cultures.
- Are you dreaming about a business career? Toronto is the right place for you because of the infinite possibilities in finance and business. Entrepreneurs and startups feel very comfortable developing their small businesses.
- There are all seasons in Toronto. You can see how perfect are fall colors of changing leaves in autumn, a beautiful blanket of snow in winter, blooming flowers and trees in spring, and hot, sunny summer!
- Quality and affordable healthcare. Moving to Toronto will make you eligible for the publicly funded Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP). OHIP covers all residents of the Ontario province.
- Perfect location. Toronto keeps you easily connected to other main cities in northeastern North America, including Boston, New York, and Montreal – cities that are only a short flight away! It’s perfect for enthusiastic tourists and business people, who travel a lot.
- Toronto has one of the largest continuous underground pedestrian systems, which means you don’t need a car to get around. Also, Toronto has the third largest public transit system on the continent, which is very affordable.

Packing essentials - what to keep with you when you move from Saskatoon to Toronto?
You may already know that you should keep some valuables with you rather than moving them in the truck. But how to understand which essentials you need to keep with you. And which ones to transfer with movers?
- Keep with you all necessary documents (passport, visa, tickets for airline, driver’s license, health insurance card) as well as credit cards and cash.
- Medications should also be near you. Seems obvious but be careful and double-check it.
- Do not forget about toiletries that you use every day (toothbrush, paste, dental floss, soap, shampoo, makeup kit)
- Heirlooms. The movers don’t want to take responsibility for your artifacts.
- The same thing with your jewelry – nobody wants to take responsibility if something is lost or broken.
- Traveling from Saskatoon to Toronto, take with you: travel pillow, sleeping mask, earplugs. These things will make your long journey easier.
- Do not try to move dangerous items like gas tanks, car batteries, chemistry sets. If you have some hazardous items, please notify your movers in advance.
Is it worth transporting the main furniture to your new house?
Almost everyone who moves asks the question: “Should I move all furniture or buy new when moving?” My answer is – “yes”! Nearly 99% of all the houses are empty when you rent them. Who wants to live in an empty house? Perhaps nobody. But there is another variant – you can buy new furniture, but be prepared to pay large sums of money. So, I think the better variant is to move all the available furniture or at least: chairs, tables, mattresses, etc.
- Be prepared that the final moving cost will depend on the total weight of the shipment.
- The unusual shaped, delicate items like art objects or equipment will require higher quality packing materials which means additional expenses.
Decide due to the sentimental, monetary, comfort, and aesthetic value of your furniture.
How to arrange furniture when moving to Toronto?
Planning the arrangement of furniture is a challenging task when you are trying to fill a new house. It becomes even harder when you are moving a house full of furniture into a new space. A bunch of boxes should turn into comfortable and cozy rooms. How can this be done quickly?
- Be smart, prepare your furniture at the pick-up location, add labels and names of the rooms. When movers deliver furniture, they will know where to place it.
- I advise you to start packing with just what you need to have. Do not pack clutter and things you don’t need. If they are in good condition, it would be better to sell or donate them.
- Go significant to small. Arrange the most prominent items of your furniture first, then smaller items such as end tables, chairs, and shelves.
- Use free design tools for your home and office. The great ones are Sweet Home 3D and Floorplanner. Or you can sketch out different furniture arrangements on paper. This way, you can experiment without getting exhausted after moving the furniture for trial and error.
- Don’t buy new furniture and pieces of decor until you’ve arranged all you already have. Thus you’ll know what you need to purchase and where you want to put it.
Important: if you are not sure that you can disassemble and assemble furniture without damaging it or without a significant investment of time – contact professional movers.
How do you know the approximate weight of household goods?
Before you begin moving out, you should estimate the weight of all your items. Wanna know how to calculate the total weight of your house? The moving price depends on this weight. Here are some examples:
- Most likely, your 1-bedroom house or an apartment weighs in the range of 450 and 1350 kilograms (1000 – 3000 pounds).
- The average weight of a 2-bedroom apartment or a house will be between 1350 and 2700 kilograms (3000 – 6000 pounds).
- A typical 3-bedroom house weighs in the range of 2700 and 4500 kilograms (6000 – 10,000 pounds.
However, these numbers aren’t precise. The weight of a household’s contents will vary from household to family. Some items such as pianos, a home gym, or a personal library can significantly increase weight. You can calculate more accurate weight using our online moving calculator or call our moving consultants.
What is a bill of lading?
Wondering how to sign a bill of lading? I’ll explain what it is:
A bill of lading (BL or BoL) is a legal document that contains the terms and conditions of your upcoming move. You will have a copy of the bill from the driver who loads your shipment. This document will accompany your shipping items and must be signed by your moving company, the movers, and you.
I advise you to read attentively and understand the bill of lading before you sign it. You can learn from the terms and conditions for payment of the total charges and equally important information about reimbursement in the event of loss or damage.
What is an Inventory?
The inventory lists all of your items, their contents, and conditions. The driver checks it out before loading. Recheck if everything listed on the checklist is correct. But I want you to know that the boxes packed by you would be written on the inventory like PBO (filled by the owner). It means that the moving company cannot open such boxes and check the condition of your items. Usually, insurance doesn’t cover such boxes.
You will also find a CP abbreviation (carrier-packed container) in the inventory. Packed by professional movers, boxes are more likely to reach their destination safe and protected by insurance.
Owning your inventory, you are protected from uncompensated property damage, just as the movers are protected against felonious damage claims.
